Death Race 2000

Its mix of fast cars, nudity, outrageous dialogue and real life DJ and TV host “The Real Don Steele” make this a perfect fusion of black humour, gore and social comment.

DVD Extras: The main extra is a bonus disc including Corman’s 1978 follow-up, Deathsport, also starring Carradine and which was directed by Allan Arkush (who would direct Rock 'n' Roll High School the following year) along with Nicholas Niciphor (as Henry Suso) and an uncredited Corman. The sequel pits Carradine as a future Gladiator battling against the tyrannical government and continues the theme of subverting sport in the future for sinister means but lacks Bartel's delightfully wicked sense of humour. Saying that, the film nevertheless makes a nice addition to this double disc set.
