Toy Story

Toy Story is a wonderful film for anyone of any age, with great characters, sassy dialogue (Tom Hanks and Tim Allen are thoroughly effective voicing the lead roles), an inventive and engaging story and catchy Randy Newman songs.

All up, it is a perfectly-crafted work that is beguiling not just for its extraordinary and pioneering computer animation that mimics human movement and facial expression with remarkable accuracy but perhaps because the characters are toys, thus tapping into one of the great mythic storylines,  the investing of the inanimate with life, evidenced in tales from Pinocchio to the Golem -- and the fact that the whole thing is delivered with a cleverly tongue-in-cheek cheesy 1950s wholesomeness.

The film was followed by three sequels.
