Zoolander

Director Ben Stiller's film targetting the male model/fashion industry calls for him and his co-star, Owen Wilson, to pretend to be very dumb and very pretentious, something which they can both do very well. The outcome is sometimes funny, sometimes cringe-worthy and sometimes, and this pretty much accounts for the story,  just silly.

Stiller has done some good work as a director (The Cable Guy is a personal favourite) but unfortunately whilst the film, which he co-wrote and co-produced, has great fun mocking the witless it is itself far from witty and is more spoof than satire, more Farrelly Brothers than Robert Altman, and, has nothing, unless you happen to like celebrity-spotting, to sustain it while you're waiting for the next gag. Jon Voight is, however,  priceless as Zoolander's coal-mining Dad.

FYI: A 2016 sequel Zoolander 2, unsurprisingly failed to add anything to the original.
